Intervention of public spaces

Design: Salvatore Bullara

Free entry opened the doors of Unten at the beginning of this year for a meeting point between art and club culture. In what other contexts allows this situation to come about?

Isn’t it something special that we all share the same public spaces? Sharing a space, which through selective perspectives, is seen and recognized in a variety of different ways.

Free entry is a group of 9 artists with the objective where each person has the possibility to access art freely and openly. Places, for example, which traditionally wouldn’t be considered exhibition spaces, breaking down barriers, making boundaries more transparent, opening spaces and dispel myths which are framed around the traditional exhibition establishments. In the sense of “free entry” we would like to create an openness in which everyone is welcome and receives access. Sharing a space, which through selective perspectives, is seen and recognized in a variety of different ways. For the upcoming exhibition, each of the free entry artists (or free entries) have invited another artist to join and exhibit, in public spaces, from 07-09 August. 16 artists will exhibit in 13 different locations in the city of Kassel, reachable either by foot, by bicycle, or by public transportation. Through these 13 positions, a network will be built throughout the city, where each visitor will have the possibility to experience a completely new perspective of their surroundings.
